General information
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1948 and is the oldest and largest faculty of mechanical engineering in Serbia. The history of the faculty dates back to 1873 when the subject Mechanics and Science of Machines was taught at the Grand School. In 1960 the Faculty moved to a new building, where it is located today. The building boasts 4 amphitheatres, 50 classrooms and 30 laboratories. Approximately 19,500 students have graduated from the Faculty. There are 210 professors, assistant professors and associated professors members of the Academic staff. At present there are approximately 2, 500 students.

The new curriculum
In October 2005 the tuition will be based on a new curriculum which is being introduced. The period of undergraduate studies is three years and postgraduate master studies two years. During the first two semesters all students do the compulsory courses, upon completion of which students have the choice of 19 modules (or courses).

Optional modules (or courses) are:
Production Engineering, Machines and Material Engineering, Shipbuilding, Aeronautical Engineering, Process Engineering and Environmental Protection, Food Industry Engineering, Energy, Thermal Power Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction and Mechanization, Automatic Control, Internal-Combustion Engines, Biotechnical System Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Information Technologies Engineering, Railway Engineering, Motor Vehicles, Armament Systems, Industrial Engineering

Pre-examination tasks
Students' pre-examination obligations are: a pass in partial examinations, laboratory practices and completed graphic works. Examinations are taken in January, June and September. During the course of their studies students must complete two professional practices.

General information
The Faculty of Mathematics has been an independent Institution of Higher Education since 1994, although the first Department of Mathematics was founded on 20th December 1873 in the Natural-Technical department of the Lyceum of that time. The tuition of mathematics, physics, statistics and practical geometry began when the Lyceum was founded. Since the opening of the Faculty of Mathematics in 1994, 1,300 of students have graduated, with the dynamics of 120 to 180 new graduates a year. Currently there are 1,800 students attending the Faculty.

The curriculum
Tuition at the Faculty of Mathematics is held within a four-year study period of 9 courses: Theoretical mathematics and application, Numerical mathematics and optimization, Probability and statistics, Information and Computing technology, Professors of mathematics and computing, Rational mechanics, Mechanics of Continual Space, Astronomy and Astrophysics. There is a three year course of Information Technology.
The number of subjects depends upon the course and ranges from 22 to 34.
On completion of all the required examinations, there is a final thesis assignment.
There are 70 PhD, 20 Masters and many associate members of the academic staff.
Attendance at tuition, practice and lectures is compulsory for students in order to certify their semesters, or years. In addition, the students must fulfill certain mandatory pre-examination tasks.

Pre-examination tasks
Student’s pre-examination obligations are: partial examinations, tests and seminar assignments. The curriculum provides for the organization of practices for students of certain courses.
Examinations are both written and oral and are taken in January, April, June, September and October. Conditions for entering the next academic year are set in accordance to the General Acts of the Faculty. There are some certain examinations which can not be carried forward to another year.

There is a library, containing a large selection of books and publications on the subject of mathematics, mechanics, computing and astronomy.

Next to the computer-equipped classrooms used for tuition, there is a computer laboratory which has two rooms with computers and is available for students individual work.

The Student Alliance and the Student Union are syndicated student organizations who promote and protect the rights and interests of the students. They also represent the students before the Faculty Authority.

General information
The concept of a Faculty of Medicine was conceived in 1876, when, on the initiative of the world renowned Biologist, Josif Pancic, the idea of opening an Institution for public health care was first considered. However, it was not until the 9th December 1920 that the first Faculty of Medicine was opened. To date 32,897 Doctors of Medicine have graduated from the Faculty, 2,734 Masters of Medical Science and 2,259 Doctors of Medical Science. Basic studies last for 6 years and there are currently 5,864 students studying at the Faculty. There are 491 professors and 332 associate members of the academic staff.

Pre-examination tasks
Basic studies last for six years (12 semesters) following which, the candidates spends a year doing their professional internship. They may then choose their field of specialization. Basic studies are divided into 32 subjects, which all students must undertake. The total number of examinations during the six years is 36, some of which must be passed before being accepted for the following year's course. The examinations are in the form of written, oral and professional practices and are taken in January, April, June, July and October. Studies are done in various locations within the clinical centre (21 institutes, Polyclinic building, GAC, Childrens Clinic, Emergency Centre). The conditions governing enrollment for the following year are set down in accordance with the General Acts of the Faculty.

There are also two Scriptorium with reference books and other publications which may assist examination candidates. One of the Scriptoriums is in the basement of the Deaconate (Dr Subotica 8), while the other is in the 'Jarac' Club.
A computer centre, with 8 computers, is situated in the Institute for Statistics, opposite the Deaconate and is open every working day from 08.00 to 14.00 hrs , Telephone: + 381 (0)11 681 964. The use of the computers is free of charge to students of the Faculty.
The popular ”Jarac” Student's club is located in Deligradskoj Street, opposite to the Higher School of Medicine. There is also a sports hall at the same location, where the student sports teams, of the Faculty of Medicine, can play and train.

The students organizations are syndicated and promote and protect the rights and interests of students and represent before the Faculty Authority:

SAMF: most of their activities are realized through the student parliament (situated in the basement to the right.) SAMF is divided into the following sections: science and research, humanitarian council, cultural, student newspaper called Medicinar, sports club... There is an active YuMSIC who organize exchange students, specialist seminars, practice, excursions and summer schools both at home and abroad and take part in humanitarian activities.
