Student Alliance of Belgrade is a sindicated, independent student organization which has been actively involved in the public and academic life of the country since 1936, the fact which makes it one of the oldest student organizations in the region.Throughout its long and eventful history, despite unfavourable circumstances, SAB has managed to articulate and present its students' attitudes, aspirations, successes, dissatisfaction and rebellions to academic and general public.

Today SAB is an umbrella organization for a network of the alliance of students from all Belgarde faculties, higher schools and student halls of residence, comprising 45 member organizations. The network includes nearly 120,000 students, so Student Alliance of Belgrade focuses its activities on the issues most relevant to students' immediate needs: improvement of study conditions, representation of students before ministry, university and faculty authorities; student standard protection; promotion of extracurricular activities; improvement of inter-faculty cooperation.

In order to accomplish to accomplish its mission, SAB is open to exchange of ideas and cooperation with other groups and organizations which promote similar values and attitudes, especially with student and youth organizations in this country and those from other countires.

SAB has five sectors, two services, one computing centre and the Student magazine editorial.

SAB sectors are:

  • Higher education, which deals with the current reform of education and regime of study;
  • Student standard, where the activities are primarily centred on the quality of student accommodation and student halls of residence, as well as on the quality of student canteen services, student credit, stipendium and grants, and accommodation in the halls of residence;
  • Social activities, which deals with cultural events;
    International exchange;

Organizational network, which attempts to involve local alliances into SAB activities and assist local organization work and schools of higher education. This sector deals with the regime of study at Belgrade Higher Schools including the processess of tuition and examinations, the transformation of higher schools into three-year colleges and study fees.

The services within SAB have been formed in order to perform their activities more effectively. For that purpose two services has been established: Marketing and Legal Services.

Student Alliance of Belgrade is the founder of the Student magazine, which has existed since 1937 as a student magazine, and is the oldest of its kind in the country. In addition, within the Student Alliance of the Student City there is a student television - SCTV.

Some of the most important activities in recent years are connected to the reform of higher education (our activists are involved in the work of the rector's office committees and they offered constructive amandements to the Law on Higher Education), monitoring of the work of Student Centre (through the work of the student commission), Freshmen's Evening organization, organization of humanitarian actions and concerts (Score for Kosovo, raising help for student in need of health help), sport event organization, ETC and ISIC card distribution, organization of a language school and the celebration of a hundredth anniversay of the University of Belgrade.
